somehow it came as a shock to weather forecasters everywhere today when instead of "fleeting snow showers" we got pelted with HUUUUGE thick flakes for about 3 hours straight, disturbingly accompanied by loud thunderclaps. it's added up so far to about 3 inches of heavy wet snow that has weighed down the still-leafy branches of so many trees that humongoid branches are breaking off left and right. the 120+ year old tree in front of my apartment lost 2 huge branches which i pulled out of the road myself.
while things are getting insanely frosty outside, inside they are certainly thawing quite a bit. i've feel a lot better about work the past few days, the kids are really taking to me, especially moosey-girl. she's been snuggling, giggling, huggling and playing with me like she hasn't since the very beginning of my tenure there. i'm sewing the boy's halloween costume (one of the kids from 'narnia') which is super fun. this week has flown by so fast!
on a sad note, miss beanie has a bad rash on her bum. prof. mom thinks it's probably impetago, though she had suspected something called molescum before. whichever it is, it looks mighty painful. everytime bean takes off her pull-up to hop on the potty (a triumph in itself!) i feel like crying because that rash looks so... ouchie!
today i found myself intensely cleaning the toaster. i just get so fixated on random things sometimes- ie: scrubbing a toaster. it's kind of odd. yesterday it was the countertops. they are this beautiful black marble with pretty, subtle turqouisie blue and gold veins- i cleaned and polished it until it gleamed, and i cleaned all the gunk off the cabinets around their handles where it was all built up and grungy and gray. it's weird, but i really enjoy tasks like that.
well, time to watch 'a prarie home companion'... this will be the third day in a row i'll have tried to get through to the end. not that it's bad, just the opposite, but i keep putting it on really late at night and falling asleep in the middle!
